Scholastic Book Orders - UPDATE! I received an email indicating that the book orders placed in September will ship on 10-29! They have apologized for the delay and informed me that orders will take up to 6 weeks now when placed due to back orders and are hoping to get this resolved soon.

I will hold Parent/Teacher conferences in November beginning next week Tuesday - I am finalizing times and dates and an email will be sent out later today after school!

Halloween Celebration on Friday:

  • Costumes can be worn all day (no gore or weapons). We ask that anything that may be distracting to the school environment be saved for home celebrations.

  • Students must wear masks along with their costume (not costume masks alone).

  • Y5 will not be having parent volunteers for our party, but everyone is welcome to come to the outside parade!

  • We will have a costume parade outside @ 3:15 p.m. All families are welcome to come & take pictures - no background check is needed for the parade session only.

SJHS Veterans Breakfast RSVP 2021

You are invited to the 2021 St. Joseph High School Veterans Breakfast on Wednesday, November 10th beginning at 9am. The event will be held in the student center at the high school. The SJHS Student Senate members will prepare and serve a delicious breakfast. Following the breakfast, we will be entertained by speakers and performers as we take time to thank our Veterans for their service. Please plan to park in the Lakeview Ave. parking lot. Students will meet you in the parking lot and guide you to the event. Masks must be worn in the building unless you are seated and eating. If you have any questions, you can reach out to student senate advisor, Amanda Wallace, at 269-926-3367 or awallace@sjschools.org.

Bottled Water Collection

We are collecting donations of bottled water for our Lincoln School families residing in Benton Harbor. If you are interested in supporting our community members, please drop off your donations in the Lincoln School main office vestibule during school hours. Thank you.

Ask My Child About: (below are some fun things to ask your child about!)

  • GrapeSEED songs: “Happy Birthday!” and “Let’s Clean Up”, “Goodbye Song!”

  • GrapeSEED story: Johnny Bear, This is Me!

  • GrapeSEED poem: “Zoo”

  • Letters in GrapeSEED Unit 1: Z, K, M, D, F - we have worked on letter identification, sounds, writing them in the air, writing them in our writing center, and discussing words that begin with these letters: zoo, kangaroo, monkey, down, fun - are a few examples!

  • We are finishing up our first GrapeSEED unit and students have done a wonderful job singing the songs, stories, and poems, along with following along in their GrapeSEED books - turning the pages and staying on pace with the songs and stories can be tricky!

  • Finding and writing pumpkin letters around the room!

  • Crafts - marble paint web and spider and hand print bat with a fun pattern border!

  • Math - Counting up from 0-10 and down from 10-0, creating bundles to 10, pattern review using 2 colors

  • Social Emotional Learning - “The Group Plan”:

    • We began our next book, “The Group Plan” this week!

      • Ask your child about:

        • The difference between the group plan and

our own plan!

  • Centers

    • Which one did you like the best?

    • Which center did you play in today?

    • What did you play with?

    • Who did you play with?

We had a great week! :)

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you,

Abby Schmidt
